Souvenirs to buy in Thailand | Cooking needs
If you are a foodie and love cooking as your hobby, there are many ready made ingredients for you to bring home and then enjoy cooking and serve the family and friends.
As for me, to serve family back home using original Thai ingredients would be surely have the food taste similar like when we have it in Thailand. I love cooking and serve the family and Thai food is one of our family favourite.
Most time my travel back home, I will never miss to bring food ingredients stuffs.
What I normally do is to individually wrapped using newspaper and place each items in a plastic bag to prevent from odor migration. Since the distance is not too long, I sometimes bring home frozen food also.
But just be cautious, not all country you are able to bring in food stuffs especially meat items, dairy, herbs and etc.. eg. Australia is very strict with most foodstuffs.
Just check before you leave your country. Knowing the regulations is better, so that the goods that we bring are not being confiscate by the customs.
MY COOKING NEEDS
These are the items that I normally get from my trip to Thailand:
1. DRIED RICE NOODLES – I will used it to cooked Phad Thai or or local fried noodles dishes.
2. PALM SUGAR – You can use Palm Sugar as an alternative to white sugar in local sweet dessert and savoury hot cooking.
3. DRIED FISH– Deep Fried and eat with white rice , soup, porridge or noodle. Surely it will give a crunched and slighty salty taste.
4. LONGAN FRUIT ( FROZEN / DRIED ) – You can just boiled with water, sugar and folded pandan leaf ( for fragrance purpose ) . A Very tasty dessert .
5. RED BERRY RICE – Red Berry Rice can be mixed with white rice or making a dessert : Steamed Red Berry Rice until cooked and served with boiled coconut milk and topped with fruits.
6. STICKY RICE / GLUTINOUS RICE
7. TAMARIND PASTE – Good for cooking and also can be served as a juice.
8. DRIED RED CHILLY FLAKES
9. CONDENSED MILK – To be added into coffee or tea or topping on top of dessert jelly or bread.
10. BLACK PEPPER CORN/ CRUSHED / POWDER
11. RED HOT CHILLY PASTE ( COOKED ) – To be used in any chilly cooking.
12. DRIED PRAWN and ANCHOVIES – To be added in fried rice , fried noodles or porridge.
